Student News Team |
Students come together from all the high schools in Blue Valley to serve as reporter-interns for the Communications Department. Their productions throughout the school year include Good Morning, Blue Valley, a morning news show; Blueprints, a newsmagazine containing news and feature stories about the people and programs in the district; and It's Game Time, a sports show.

Mike Slagle - Assistant Superintendent
As assistant superintendent, Mike has first-hand knowledge of school district-related topics in Blue Valley and how those issues affect the student population. He earned his master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning with specialization in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Iowa. He received his Ph.D. in Education Policy at the University
of Kansas. |

Kristi McNerlin - Director of Communications
Kristi oversees all aspects of the Communications Department which includes BVTV18. She earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Film Studies from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She has experience in television news broadcasting, radio and newspaper. Kristi has been in the school public relations profession since 1994, coming to Blue Valley in 2001. She is also the past president for the Kansas School Public Relations Association. |

Bruce
McRoberts, Broadcast Internship instructor
Teaching students the craft of broadcasting and the
art of storytelling is a passion for Bruce McRoberts.
With a bachelor's degree in Radio-Television from Kansas
State, he worked 18 years as a director and producer of origination programming at a local cable company. Coming to Blue Valley in 1997, he became the first
broadcasting teacher in the Blue Valley high schools
and helped develop the BVTV18 facility. Bruce earned
a master's degree from Pittsburg State in 2003. He is
a member of the JEMKC, NSPA, JEA, and the Executive
Council of the Student Television Network. Under his
guidance, the Student News Team has earned many local
and national awards with their video productions.

Mark Ekstrand, BVTV Coordinator After developing an interest in broadcasting as an 8th grade student, Mark went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Broadcasting and Film from CMSU. He worked as a promotions assistant for the university’s TV station and as an on-air operations engineer for a local network affiliate before coming to Blue Valley in 1999. Mark is directly involved in producing videos for the district. He also recommends, installs and maintains the broadcasting equipment at BVTV18. In addition to these responsibilities, Mark works with the Student News Team to help them learn the technical skills needed in the profession. |
