Executive Producers
Mike Slagle - Assistant Superintendent
As assistant superintendent, Mike has first-hand knowledge of school district-related topics in Blue Valley and how those issues affect the student population. He earned his Masters degree in Urban and Regional Planning with specialization in Geographic Information Systems from the University of Iowa. He recently received his Ph.D. in Education Policy at the University of Kansas.
Kristi McNerlin Kristi McNerlin - Communications Department and BVTV18 manager
Kristi serves as manager of the Communications department and BVTV18. She writes for district publications and assists with many of the district's special video projects. Kristi earned a bachelor's degree in Mass Communications and Film Studies from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. She has experience in television news broadcasting, radio and newspaper. Kristi has been in the school public relations profession since 1994, coming to Blue Valley in 2001. She is also the past president for the Kansas School Public Relations Association.

BVTV Staff
Bruce McRoberts Bruce McRoberts, Broadcast Internship instructor
Teaching students the craft of broadcasting and the art of storytelling is a passion for Bruce McRoberts. With a bachelor's degree in Radio-Television from Kansas State, he worked 18 years as a director and producer of local origination programming at TeleCable of Overland Park. Coming to Blue Valley in 1997, he became the first broadcasting teacher in the Blue Valley high schools and helped develop the BVTV18 facility. Bruce earned a master's degree from Pittsburg State in 2003. He is a member of the JEMKC, NSPA, JEA, and the Executive Council of the Student Television Network. Under his guidance, the Student News Team has earned many local and national awards with their video productions.
Mark Ekstrand Mark Ekstrand, Technical Specialist
After developing an interest in broadcasting as an 8th grade student in the Fort Osage School District, Mark went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Broadcasting and Film from CMSU. He worked as a Promotions Assistant at KMOS-TV6 and as an on-air operations engineer for KSHB 41 before coming to Blue Valley in 1999. Mark is directly involved in producing videos for the district as well as producing stories for Blue Valley Cover Stories. He also recommends, installs and maintains the broadcasting equipment at BVTV18. In addition to these responsibilities, Mark works with the Student News Team to help them learn the technical skills needed in the profession.
Pat Pennington Pat Pennington, Production and Information Specialist
Pat is no stranger to the public school system, having worked in this arena since 1988 and coming to Blue Valley in January 2000. She earned her bachelor's degree in Communication Theory/Human Relations from Park University while working full-time and raising a family. She serves as the department's liaison with building media stringers and with the Communications Department, collecting story ideas from the district's schools, writing press releases and updating the BVTV18 web page. Pat is the technical producer for Proactive Parenting and Blue Valley Cover Stories, works with the Student News Team and also produces district videos.

On-Air Talent
David Hurt David Hurt, Ph.D. - Proactive Parenting
As host of Proactive Parenting, Dr. David Hurt's goal is to create an awareness of contemporary issues of raising a child in today's society. Dr. Hurt has been a counselor in the Blue Valley School District since 1992, not only advising students at the alternative high school but also serving as the district's counseling coordinator. He received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University and is a member of the Kansas Counseling Association and the American Counseling Association. While a member of the Emporia State University faculty, he co-produced training videos for school administrators and counselors.
Jeff McClelland Jeff McClelland - Kidprints
His love of interacting with and educating children makes Sunrise Point Elementary principal Jeff McClelland a perfect host of this popular segment on Blue Valley Cover Stories. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and a master's degree from UMKC. McClelland has been a principal in the district since 2000.

Jeff made his hosting debut in September 2003. He enjoys visiting with the students and hearing their stories and accomplishments.
Raquel Lathan Raquel Lathan Thomas - Blue Valley Cover Stories
A teacher in the Blue Valley School District since her student teaching days, Raquel enjoys teaching because she loves to make children smile and watching them learn.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master's degree in Teaching and Learning in Education from Avila University.  She is an accomplished dancer, currently coaching the Avila University Glitter Girls Dance Team and choreographing competitive state routines for numerous local high schools.  Raquel served as an ambassador for the Kansas City Chiefs as a cheerleader for five years.  She has also appeared on numerous local television commercials and instructional videos for school districts.
