BVTV Program Overview

Channel 18: Your window to public education in Johnson County
Through a cooperative agreement between the Blue Valley, Shawnee Mission, and Olathe School Districts, patrons have the ability to view a variety of programming presented by each district, made possible by Time-Warner Cable and Comcast Cable on Channel 18.

A place for communication, a place of learning:
The Broadcast Technology program is an integral part of the district's overall communication plan.

  • District-produced shows provide information about the business of the school district, issues that affect the school community, and tips on parenting.
  • Three student-produced shows give viewers a closer look at the activities, students and personnel of the schools.

Learning and Training:
The Broadcast Internship class is for students who have completed Broadcast Tech I and II at their respective high schools and are interested in exploring this field as a career. These students come together to form the Student News Team. The class enables students to learn the advanced skills necessary as reporters and operators of studio and field equipment through hands-on training and practical application. Student productions include a one-hour live weekly news show, Good Morning, Blue Valley. Blueprints, a news magazine, incorporates feature stories about the programs and people within the schools. It's Game Time is a fifteen minute weekly sports show that showcases varsity athletics in the Blue Valley School District. Students News Team members are interns of the Communications Department and are called upon to assist in the production of district shows and deliver information about school programs.
