BVTV Broadcasting program wins third consecutive Pacemaker

The Blue Valley School District's Broadcast Technology program brought home one of four top prizes in the 2003 National Scholastic Press Association's (NSPA) Pacemaker competition.  Considered the Pulitzer Prize in school publications, the Pacemaker awards were announced at the Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Washington, DC on November 22, 2003.  Professional broadcast journalists independent of NSPA served as judges for this contest.

This year's winning entry was a Good Morning Blue Valley show, produced by the 2002-03 Student News Team.  In addition to other features, this edition included stories on a mock accident at Blue Valley Northwest High, twins at Harmony Middle School facing different challenges, and how two district teachers found a unique way to help an elementary student cope with his learning disability.

Winning this year places the Blue Valley program in an elite group:

  • The only group other than Hillcrest High School of Springfield, MO to win three consecutive Pacemakers.
  • The only group in the Greater Kansas City area to ever win this award.

Manager and instructor for the Broadcast Technology facility and program is Bruce McRoberts.
