BVTV Student News Team receives national awards
The 2003-04 Student News Team recently traveled to Los Angeles for the inaugural Student Television Network (STN) National Convention and returned home with two awards for excellence in broadcasting plus two awards for on-site competitions.
The first-ever STN Excellence Award was presented to the students for their production of Good Morning Blue Valley . This award recognizes "superior accomplishments in scholastic broadcasting including achievement in audio and video presentation, innovation, storytelling, scripting and overall journalistic integrity and courage."
First place accolades were presented to BVN seniors Britni Benage and Ally Hamacher, BVHS senior Matt Hayward, and BVNW senior Chris Pearson for their entry in the STN News Feature Challenge. In this contest, a topic is provided to the student team. They must then produce a complete news feature within a five-day turnaround time.
Two students earned recognition for their work in convention on-site competitions. BVW senior Lara Wilinsky earned third place in Broadcast Newswriting; BVN senior JD Rowe produced a video essay that earned him honorable mention.
STN is a national, non-profit organization that brings schools together, and supports and promotes scholastic television with active e-groups, summer workshops, and challenging contests. For more information, check out their web page at www.studenttelevision.com
