BVTV Student News Team earns awards at STN convention

The Blue Valley Schools' Student News Team earned three honors at the Student Television Network (STN) Convention held March 3 - 10, 2007.   Approximately 1250 students from across the nation attended the annual convention this year inDisneyland.

First place was awarded to BV West senior Laura Licata in the Broadcast News Writing competition.  This contest gave students 90 minutes to rewrite wire copy into broadcast news-style format.

In the Video Essay competition, BV West senior Matt Compton earned an honorable mention.  Students were given a theme on which to base their project, four and one-half hours to videotape, and 90 minutes to write and edit a complete package.

The Student News Team also won honorable mention recognition for their entry into the newest competition of the convention -- the Sweet 16 Contest.  Teams were given a word and then required to create an entire show based on that word in a total of sixteen hours.

The remaining members of the 2006-07 Student News Team who attended the convention were: 

Courtney Bullis, Makensie Davis, Greg Dubinsky, Alex Freeman, Sam Frickleton, Garrett Griffin, John Kurtz, Andy Lavin, Brit Muhl, Mary Ellen Patterson, Hannah Pederson, Alex Sandmoen, Mike Sapenoff, Michael Simpson, Scott Simpson, and Jeremiah Watkins. 

Members of the BVTV18 Student News Team learn the advanced skills necessary as reporters and operators of studio and field equipment through hands-on training and practical application. Student productions include a one-hour live weekly news show, Good Morning, Blue Valley and Blueprints, a news magazine.
