2006 KAB awards

The Blue Valley Schools' Student News Team earned many top honors in the annual Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) Student Broadcast Awards competition.  The awards will be presented at the 2006 Student Broadcast Seminar on April 12th at the Ramada Downtown Topeka.

In the Complete Sports Feature category, BVN senior Collin Johnson, BVHS seniors Jordan Foote and Matt Wiggins along with BVHS junior Jason Browar earned first place honors. They told the story of a Blue Valley North senior who overcame obstacles and became a leader on the Mustangs basketball team.

The Student News Team swept the Complete News Feature category. 
-- BVW senior Meredith Miller earned first place for her story    
  about the school nurse who works with all children at Morse Elementary but especially diabetic children, both in her building and across the district.
--  Second place was awarded to BVN senior Allison Benage for her story about a Cottonwood Point Elementary teacher who received the Excellence in Teaching award from the Blue Valley School District.  This teacher was recognized as an outstanding mentor to students although her husband was serving in Iraq.
--  Honorable Mention accolades were awarded to BVW senior Katie McChesney.   Her story told how a Valley Park Elementary food service manager interacts with children to teach them good dietary habits.

BVW senior Meredith Miller and BVN senior Allison Benage won second place honors for their thirty-second PSA.  Entitled Tolerance , they demonstrated that bullying can have negative consequences on the victim.
