BVTV18 Broadcast Technology program wins fourth consecutive top prize from JEMKC
The Blue Valley School District's Broadcast Technology program brought home its fourth consecutive first place award in the Newscast category from the Journalism Educators of Metropolitan Kansas City (JEMKC) annual competition.
This year's winning entry was the Good Morning Blue Valley show, produced by the 2004-05 Student News Team. This edition includes features on the perseverance of a Lakewood Middle School teacher; how Cedar Hills Elementary students are using palm pilot technology to create publications; the success of a young student through the ESL program; and the continuing struggle a Blue Valley West senior faces with her mother.
Members of the 2004-05 Student News Team are: Dustin Allen, Jennifer Bantham, Kristen Burchett, Brooke Carney, Alex Hughes, Peter Kellerman, Courtney Maphies, Derrick Maples,Hallie Martin, Cecily Miller, Blaine Muhl, Amanda Peterson, Ally Ross, Jennifer Roth, Mike Schober, Adam Squitieri, Ryan Wallace, and Graham Yohe.
Members of the BVTV18 Student News Team learn the advanced skills necessary as reporters and operators of studio and field equipment through hands-on training and practical application. Student productions include a one-hour live weekly news show, Good Morning, Blue Valley. Blueprints, a news magazine, incorporates feature stories about the programs and people within the schools.
JEMKC is a local teacher's group which promotes all forms of Journalism. In addition to sponsoring a yearly competition that is open to members of the organization, scholarships are awarded for excellence in Journalism.
