Student-produced show earns international kudos

A student-produced show on Blue Valley Television has earned top recognition for the second year in a row from the Communicator Awards, sponsor of an annual video competition.

The 2003-04 Student News Team earned a Crystal Award of Excellence for Good Morning, Blue Valley in the Education Institutions/Student Produced category.  This award is given to those entries whose ability to communicate puts them among the best in the field.  Approximately 14 percent of 2,937 entries from 48 states, the District of Columbia and 7 other countries received this highest recognition awarded by this organization.

The Communicator Awards is an international awards competition founded by communications professionals to recognize excellence in the field.  Rather than competing against other competitors, entries are judged against a high standard of excellence.  Industry professionals judge the entries, looking for groups and individuals "whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry."

Members of the BVTV Student News Team learn the advanced skills necessary as reporters and operators of studio and field equipment through hands-on training and practical application. Student productions include a one-hour live weekly news show, Good Morning Blue Valley; Blueprints -- a news magazine -- that incorporates feature stories about the programs and people within the schools; and It's Game Time, a show that highlights Varsity athletics in the Blue Valley School District.  Adviser for the Student News Team is Bruce McRoberts.

BVTV18 shows can be seen on Time-Warner Cable and Comcast Cable channel 18.  The complete programming and current show schedule can be found along with other information at http://bvtv.bluevalleyk12.org
